Lima, showcase for ticketing, AVMS and RTPIS integration

| ACS has just started to build an "intelligent" transport system for the new "troncale" in Lima (Peru) that integrates ticketing, vehicle monitoring and passenger information functions. Showcasing the integration of these three functions for the very first time, this solution comes less than one year after ACS acquired TMS, a specialist in fleet management and passenger information. "Our teams have wasted no time in proving the advantages of pooled skills" stresses Vice-President Mark Gordon, responsible for developing ACS Public Transport on the American market and former manager of TMS.
A new cost-performance ratio Companies will have punctuality indicators in front of their eyes at all times. They will have all the resources they need for informing passengers, apologising for delays, and even offering discounts. At any rate this will represent a remarkable example of how "users" of public transport have been successfully promoted to the rank of true "customers".

At long last, bus drivers will be able to find all their ticketing and operating functions together on a single console. The transition from the existing situation will be easy: "In Lima, we have chosen to integrate the ticketing sub-assemblies in the original TMS operating console", points out Géraldine Lièvre, ACS technical manager for the project, "but we do the opposite when the ticketing units are already installed…" This also means there are fewer items of equipment in the chain leading to the central systems, which makes for a lighter maintenance bill. Information is fed back from the buses via a single wireless network. The central systems themselves continue to be separate, but using the same technologies for the data bases and business intelligence means that they are easier to administer and information is easier to exploit. "ACS' single, integrated solution combines cost optimisation for the operator, better service for users and greater easier use for drivers", concludes Fabrice Trollier, ACS Public Transport commercial manager. * In May 2008, ACS purchased the Transport Management System division of Orbital Sciences Corporation, specialised in fleet management and vehicle geolocation.
